Dietary Supplements

A dietary supplement is a product that is designed to support the diet and contains one or more dietary ingredients. They include vitamins, minerals, herbs, and amino acids. It is clear that vitamins are an important part of dietary supplements and can be taken in the form of pills, capsules, solid food, or liquids.

If you're on a special diet or your diet has recently changed, you may need vitamin supplements. Perhaps you are on low calorie weight loss diet or you be a senior citizen you just doesn't eat as much as they should. Perhaps your body doesn't tolerate milk or cheese. Maybe you're pregnant and you don't like eating vegetables. If you belong to any of these problem groups then you should consider yourself as a candidate for dietary supplements.

Vitamin D is helpful during pregnancy. You'll also need calcium during those months to maintain bone mass. Calcium supplements can help if you don't enjoy dairy products.

All types of supplements are regulated by the FDA. It deters unsafe supplements from entering the market. It is not up to the manufacturer to prove its safety. Every supplement must go through a designed process so its quality may be assured. Some, however, view the FDA regulations as not strict enough so extra caution is still in order when choosing dietary supplements.

It's difficult to determine which type of vitamin supplement is best for you in accordance with the condition of your health and your physical requirements. The need varies from individual to individual to a great extent and a doctor or nutritionist should be consulted as to the proper dosage.
