Family Medical Leave Act

Secure the Health of Your Family with the Family Medical Leave Act

The Family Medical Leave Act was established to help people continue to make money regardless of the health situation within their family. The United States government recognizes that there are situations within a family that require one or more party of the family to take a substantial amount of time away from work in order to focus efforts on a new child or ailing family member. The Family Medical Leave Act allows for employees to fee comfortable taking that time while knowing that they cannot be fired during it. Here are the four reasons, according to the Family Medical Leave Act, that a person is allowed to take off of work:

Birth of a Newborn

If you or your spouse gives birth to a new baby, then you are allowed to take up to 12 weeks off of work, according to the Family Medical Leave Act. This time is meant to help you take care of your child while also bonding with your family.

Placement With the Employee of an Adopted Child or a Foster Child

If you take a child into your home for adoption or for foster care, then you are able to take up to 12 weeks off of work for the same reasons that the Family Medical Leave Act allows you to take off when you have your own child. You are given this time to bond with the child and with the family.

To Care for an Immediate Family Member (Spouse, Child, or Parent) With a Serious Health Condition

If an immediate family member falls ill, the Family Medical Leave Act allows you to take up to 12 weeks off per year to take care of that person. You may take this time at once or in intervals throughout the year.

To Take Medical Leave When the Employee is Unable to Work Because of a Serious Health Condition

If you fall seriously ill and are unable to work, the Family Medical Leave Act allows you to take up to 12 weeks off of work in a one-year period. This time is meant to be shared with family and to help you recover.

The basic idea behind the Family Medical Leave Act is that if you are ill or if you adopt or have a new child in your household, you are able to take twelve weeks off of work over the course of one year. The Family Medical Leave Act is intended to help you spend time in recovery or bonding with a new family. It has been enjoyed by families all over the U.S. since it was instated.
